From Jan:
"I got a long text from Laura this morning. We had missed a call from Kris while in church. He had called her. They were on the road waiting to hitch a ride around the Whites. They are just impassable at this point I guess. She said he was a bit discouraged that they had waited around hoping it would break but now they are going to have to skip this part of the journey. I’m just glad that they are using their good brains (as Judy would say) and not endangering themselves any more than necessary!"

Disposable Camera Update #3
This camera came mid-September. I figured it was best to get camera 2 up before these, but these were definitely worth waiting for. Seriously great pics.
Thanks, Kris and Joel... errrr, Hindsight and Slim Pickins!!

Up on top... it's not a rock.
Slim Pickins is growing a respectable beard.

Captain Morgan or Robinson Crusoe?

Seriously... how do they do that?!?!
"The Life"
A Hiker-style Bath

Uhhhh, guys...
Seriously, guys... not cool for us back home.

Do you see it?
I'm not sure what kind it is, but a snake is a snake is a snake. All the more freaky when you're hiking.

10.11 - Phone Call
From Jan:
"I just got off the phone with Kris. He is in Gorham, NH. Yetti's girlfriend picked them up off the trail and they are hanging there for tonight and possibly tomorrow night as well. They will actually have to go back to the trail in Maine and hike there once they decide to start again, but this was the closest bigger town. They are hoping to get to an outfitter and get some warmer gear and get the problem with water purifyer fixed. Kris was excited because they saw a bull moose. He said it was by far the biggest creature he has ever seen! Once they get back on the trail, they will begin up Mt. Washington. This has the potential to be the most treacherous part of the journey. It boasts the worst weather, and some through hikers have reported hurricane conditions. He asked us to be praying for their safety which I assured him we all would! He will call agan in about a week hopefully when they have come through this section."

10.06 - Phone Call
From Jan:
"Kris called from Rangeley, Maine. He reports that they are doing well and have enjoyed better weather. In some areas they are taking their time because of the beauty of the area. As they left the trail to come into this town, they were having trouble getting a ride the 9 miles into town. Finally, a day hiker who had a car offered a ride for one. The guys decided to have Hindsight (Kris) head into the IGA for food, he would come back and they would just set up camp there along the trail. While in the IGA, Slim Pickins and Yetti (guy they met on the trail) walked in having finally gotten a ride. While checking out at the store, they inquired about a motel or place to stay. They were told that there wasn't anywhere, but maybe Bob would allow them to stay with him. He often allows hiker to stay at his place; running a hostel of sorts. Sure enough he had rooms and even came to the store to pick them all up. As a mom, I am grateful for the kindness of strangers; there are angels among us!!"
Also, roughly two weeks ago, Kris' air mattress quit holding air. He slept on the ground for about a week until he was able to call REI. What a great place, though; they sent him another one and he's back to sleeping on soft ground. At that point they had come through the 100mile section of wilderness in which there were no towns where they could restock in. This was a stressful time for us all.

Disposable Camera Update #2
Wow... so this has been a long time coming. Kris sent this camera in the beginning of August and it's taken me a while to get the pics put up. I really don't know what the context is for many of these, but I'll put in the notes that I can.
Apologies again and without further ado.
